HAHANA 2021
Supported by Te Māngai Paho., Hahana was Blackout Media's first ever funded project which launched the company in 2015. This series has been an online hit with it now being in its sixth season and because of its success, it was turned into a television series for Māori television. Our objective - To normalise te reo Māori.
Over the seasons we have accumulated over 35 million views with our most recent series (HQ 2021) reaching 10 million views at the halfway mark. We have consistently increased our following and views/engagement every year. This season we had to deal with lockdowns, traffic light systems and setbacks, but we pushed through and created a series we're very proud of. We also delved into still imagery and graphics for Instagram. Some examples are below.
We knew that to keep our rangatahi audience, we needed to utilise tiktok which we did in 2020 with 160k followers and 3 million plus likes. Hahana encapsulates so many things. It's a show for Rangatahi by Rangatahi.
